A Chilean woman had her three daughters taken away from her because she's gay. Chile's Supreme Court ruled against Karen Atala
...on the grounds that she was living in a lesbian relationship. It argued that this could negatively affect the development of the children and eventually create confusion over sexual roles.
But of course. It's an excellent idea to separate three girls from a doting mother and give them an uncertain future as wards of the state. Because let's face it, the alternative would be that their innocent minds would get confused, their pure souls corrupted, by seeing Mommy hold hands with another lady. Nuh-uh — musn't allow that!
The centre-left government prides itself on being progressive, but Chile is socially conservative and there is an election at the end of the year.
Ah, social conservatives and their gender identity issues. Some of these folks hoist their potbellied bodies and manly bulges into frilly cocktail dresses, and still command the respect of the nation. Others enthusiastically have sex with barnyard animals without any detriment to their fine work as arbiters of morality. But a lesbian mom? No sirree, that's where they bravely draw the line.
